The Global Taiwan Institute (GTI) convenes bipartisan, high-level task forces to generate policy ideas and strengthen the US–Taiwan partnership at a time of growing geopolitical complexity. Bringing together former senior officials, industry leaders, and academic experts, these task forces serve as platforms for in-depth dialogue, practical recommendations, and public engagement.

GTI’s first Task Force on US–Taiwan Relations, chaired by Ambassador Robert C. O’Brien (ret.), focused on evaluating the current state of the relationship and identifying actionable steps to deepen cooperation. Drawing on extensive consultations, including a delegation visit to Taiwan, the task force examined key areas such as diplomacy, defense, and economic ties. Its final report outlines concrete recommendations to expand bilateral engagement, enhance Taiwan’s security, and strengthen trade and technology collaboration.

Building on this foundation, GTI has launched a new US–Taiwan Task Force, co-chaired by Ambassador O’Brien and Dr. Ely Ratner. This initiative reflects the growing urgency of US–Taiwan coordination amid evolving challenges in the Indo-Pacific. The task force continues to convene leading experts from the United States and Taiwan to explore critical issues including defense and deterrence, supply chain resilience, technology cooperation, and economic security.
