Jason Ronsse is a 2026 Fall intern at the Global Taiwan Institute. He received both his Master of Arts in Diplomacy and Military Studies (2025) and Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (2017) from Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Previous internships at US Pacific Command (USPACOM) and the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies introduced him to the ways in which US military preparedness and international cooperation contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. At GTI, he hopes to deepen his understanding of how US-Taiwan policy is understood and implemented in Washington, DC.
His master’s thesis examined how the United States has defined its role in the evolving relationship between the political entities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and whether US actions have conformed to or departed from its declared policy. Jason considers improving his Mandarin important not only for returning to this research agenda, but also for better understanding the diplomatic, informational, military, and economic factors that shape the actions of the United States, Republic of China (Taiwan), and People’s Republic of China.
