Cara Bilson is a Spring 2026 Intern at the Global Taiwan Institute. Originally from England, she studied History and Economics at the University of Hull. Cara received a Huayu Enrichment Scholarship in February 2023 allowing her to spend 9 months in Taipei studying Mandarin at National Taiwan Normal University. From there she worked as International Affairs Coordinator for Green Media, a Taipei- based Sustainable Food NGO. There she developed a risk mitigation framework addressing Taiwan’s heavy reliance on imported beef (97 percent of total consumption), which informed scenario planning and contingency strategies for a network of local restaurants and cafeterias. Her research interests include national security and economic diplomacy.
