Geoffrey Cain is an author whose bestselling books cover the colliding worlds of technology and global geopolitics.
His recent book about China’s surveillance dystopia, The Perfect Police State, was cited for the 2021 Cornelius Ryan Award from the Overseas Press Club for best nonfiction book on international affairs. His first book, Samsung Rising, was longlisted for the 2020 Financial Times and McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award. A former correspondent at The Economist and other publications, he covered China, South Korea, and North Korea for more than a decade. As a congressional innovation fellow, he served as a senior technology policy advisor on the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He regularly testifies before Congress and gives news commentary on emerging technological threats on CNN, Bloomberg TV, and NPR.
Cain holds an MA with distinction in Asian studies from the University of London and a BA from George Washington University.
