Haruka Satake is a Fall 2023 intern at the Global Taiwan Institute. She is currently a second-year Asian Studies MA student at George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Relations, with a concentration on East Asian security and politics. She is originally from Japan and was raised as a fourth generation Zainichi Korean. Previously, she was a research fellowship participant with the Taiwan Education and Research Program at the Sigur Center for Asian Studies, researching the relationship of Taiwanese comfort women and women’s rights in Taiwan. During the Summer of 2023, she also participated in the Japan-South Korea-US trilateral women’s empowerment program.
