Nicholas Romero is a 2026 Fall Intern at the Global Taiwan Institute. He is currently a second-year graduate student in the Master of Arts in Asian Studies (MASIA) program at Georgetown University, double concentrating in Politics & Security and Southeast Asia. He also received his bachelor’s from Georgetown, studying International Politics with a concentration in Foreign Policy and a minor in Mandarin Chinese.
He completed his master’s thesis this past spring, focusing on the effect of Chinese policy on the Taiwan-Philippine relationship from 2016 to present. In 2023, he completed a study abroad based in Taipei, honing his Chinese and learning about local perspectives on cross-Strait relations. He has previously worked as a China Policy intern with the US Department of State, translating and analyzing open-source PRC Ministry publications. Besides US-Taiwan foreign policy, he also enjoys learning about Taiwanese subnational diplomacy and sports diplomacy.
